CATHERINE MURPHY ON ELDERCARE
There is a large crossover in terms of eldercare issues whether it be with health, disabilities, finance, social protection or community organisations & facilities. Having said that, I feel that the central issue of valuing and supporting the older members of our society should be central and focused on in it’s own right.
The knowledge, experience and wisdom of older generations is invaluable to our society, a fact that is all-too-often forgotten. For example, I have a very strong interest in family history and in the course of conducting research in this area have always found it extremely useful to speak with the older generations of the families in question who are always mines of information.
We would all like to be treated with respect in our twilight years and my approach on eldercare issues always places respect at the very centre.
