CATHERINE MURPHY ON ECONOMICS, BUSINESS & FINANCE

ECONOMICS, BUSINESS & FINANCE

This section of the site is concerned with matters of the broader Irish & European Economy, Business (whether it be local, national or international),the Finance Industry and Financial Policy.

I feel that a proactive and enabling approach to supporting the development of Irish businesses is extremely important in terms of the development of the Irish Economy.  Whether it be addressing the upward only rent reviews that literally are literally crippling businesses, finding a way to better capitalise on Government schemes aimed at promoting and supporting business development or attracting  longterm inward investment from large multi-nationals, I feel that fostering an efficient and business friendly environment is hugely important to developing our economy.

That said, realistic and society-focused fiscal policies are a must if we are to move away from considering our country as an economy rather than a society.  While the growth of our economy is of huge importance in order to ensure that we have the financial wherewithal to support our society but we must not loose our focus on the fact that our country is full of people and not simply economic units.
