Road Conditions at Old Carton – Maynooth

In late 2010 I was contacted by residents in the Old Carton area of Maynooth.  A a number of traffic accidents  had taken place around that time.   A perimiter fence had been demolished,  on more than one location,   at least two cars had turned over while others had ended up in the ditch.

I tabled the following motion for the January meeting of the Celbridge Area Committee
“In view of the number of accidents that have occurred on the road at Old Carton that the Council arranges to a road surface with a rough finish in order to increase the road holding of vehicles in that location.”

I received the following report: “This section of Road was “power washed” by a contractor in November 2010 to remove any build up of grime/oil/rubber. The road was then tested for skid resistance and the values were well within specification.”

I pursued the matter with the Area Engineer at the Area Meeting,  pointing out the risk to road users and the potential for a fatal accident at this location.    I was told that since the power washing had beed done she was unaware of any further accidents.  She stated that the road surface I was seeking was very expensive  €25-€30 per meter,  it also has  a limited life span.   She did however   undertake to keep the area under review.
