Newtown House – update
Last month I tabled a motion in relation to problems at Newtown House. The progress on the matter for this months meeting is as follows:
Leixlip Youth and Community Centre, Newtown House
Kildare County Council have investigated the issues that have arisen within the operation and infrastructure of the Leixlip Youth Premises in Newtown house. A schedule of works have been compiled and sent to the Original Architect’s design team and Contractor to carry out the necessary works within their remit. Failure of them to carry out this work in a reasonable timeframe will force Kildare County Council to appoint a local contractor to carry out the work, with all invoices and expenses recouped from the original Contractor.
There are three main problems identified:
– The foul drainage will need to be rectified by relaying the pipes to serve the purpose of the centre.
– An overall review of the roof needs to take place
– Areas with wall dampness needs to be reviewed.
I sought a further report for our January meeting, reminded the Council that the President will visit the centre on 7th February, however, while that visit is very important, some of the problems if not addressed with cost considerably more to rectify if not addressed soon.
