Public Lighting – delays with repairs
For the past year Airtricity have had responsibility for maintaining the public lights in Kildare. Formally the ESB did this work. I am aware of situations where lights, reported out of order, have taken months to repair. It seems to me that the standard of service is not satisfactory. In view of this I tabled the following motion.
“That we are provided with a report on the public lighting in the Celbridge Electoral Area to include: what lights reported out of order, remain out of order and when were these reported. What system is now in place to track the repairs and how long on average are lights remaining out of order, and at what intervals are inspections carried out?”
I received the following report: The County Council is jointly tendering for a new maintenance contract for public lighting services with Wicklow County Council. The closing date for this competition is in December 2010 and it would not be appropriate to set out details of the services being provided by the current provider at this time. It is anticipated that the new contract will be started in February 2011 and as promised at previous area committee meetings, the winning contractor will be asked to meet with relevant area committees to set out their capabilities and explain the performance indicators applicable for the new contract.
I stressed the importance of having systems in place to capture the level of outages and the duration of these. I have also sought a penalty clause within the new contract which penalises excessive delays in carrying out repairs.
