Castletown Right of Way
The Castletown right of way issue which attracted over 2000 submissions to the County Development Plan was decided on Monday 7th December.
I sought an acknowledgement in the plan of the right of way through Castletown, between the Main Gate at Celbridge and Batty Langley Lodge. Unfortunately that proposal was narrowly rejected. Instead it has been left up to individuals or community groups to have that right of way legally defined, through the courts if necessary.
I, together with others, introduced evidence from historical maps and documents to show that such a right of way existed, in fact it was the old Celbridge to Dublin Road. Those who opposed its inclusion, which included the County Manager, argued that no “legal” right of way exists.
