Lighting up the trees not the roads and paths – Tree Pruning needed
I highlighted the need to prune, or indeed, remove some trees where they obscure public lighting. I pointed out this is a serious problem in mature estates and cited Beaufield, Maynooth, as a very good example. Many of the trees along the main avenue completely obscure the light. I pointed out that when planning permission is given a certain standard of public lighting is required, yet, that standard is not delivered because of inappropriate planting, or, the lack of tree pruning. Leixlip is not as bad as the other towns and villages within the electoral area primarily because the Town Council carries out the tree pruning function.
I received the following Report: Where trees obscure street lights, the appropriate action is to remove them. This work can only be done where estates are already in charge. In view of the limited report I am now forwarding on an ongoing basis details of trees that need to be pruned or removed. Input from residents towards this aim would be appreciated.
