New Ramps at Easton Road will improve road safety

Cllr Catherine Murphy who funded the new ramps on Easton Road from her discretionary fund stated that she is happy with the finished product. Each Councillor has a discretionary fund of €40,000. The scheme was designed by the Council’s Road design Department and the work was carried out by private contractors, the ramps and work done reducing the central median opposite Easton Mews, cost in the region of €20,000. There are in excess of 1200 houses on Easton Road and a large young population.
The design of the road has contributed towards safety concerns with most new estates exiting on to a bend. “During the recent local elections, road safety on Easton Road was one of the most dominant issues raised in estates such as Rinawade, Glen Easton, Easton Mews.” The ramps have been designed to be bus friendly which is important. The 66D which currently has just one service in each direction a day there are strong demands for service improvements here, an issue that also needs to be addressed according to Cllr Murphy.
The balance of Cllr Murphy’s discretionary funds went towards various footpath improvements.
