New Link Road Would Relieve Traffic in Leixlip & Celbridge
Cllr Catherine Murphy tabled a motion at the October meeting of Kildare County Council, Leixlip Area Committee in which she sought advance planning of a new link road between the Celbridge Road at Hewlett Packard and Leixlip/Celbridge West Interchange. The announced intention by Diageo to seek planning permission for a new brewery at Leixlip opposite Hewlett Packard together with the review of the Leixlip and Celbridge development provides a timely opportunity to consider such a link road according to Murphy.
She has been told by the Council that the road matter will be considered in the context of a pending planning application by Diageo.
She stated there were many benefits should such a short stretch of road be provided including:
1. Potential reduction of traffic through Castletown Estate Leixlip.
2. Open up a potential new bus route.
3. Reduction of traffic on Main Street Celbridge from the Hazelhatch/Ardclough Road area’s.
4. Link to the proposed Collinstown Retail development.
5. Potential to provide infrastructure in parallel to new development should Diageo get planning permission.

Progress Report in response to above:
Preliminary discussions have taken place with Diageo on a number of issues. A planning application is expected in due course and all relevant matters (including roads matters) will be considered in that context.
