I applied for Carers Allowance about 8 years ago. ended up having to leave my job to look after both my mother and special needs sister. i am living about 15km from my mothers as i have my own family to look after as well. i was up and down that road every day, told the truth on the aplication form. needless to say i was refused. while i know the majority of us are honest, in some cases its the wrong people who are sanctioned this allowance. i know of someone who is getting it for their diabetic daughter, which is not a debillitating illness and yet i couldnt get it for my mother and sister. wheres the justice in that. i never claimed anything in my life, worked for everything i ever needed and paid my taxes, still paying a mortgage. dont know the social welfare system very well but ill tell it all wrong out there. by the way im still goin up and down the road to my mother and sister, staying over nights when my mother is not well. i have applied for carers allowance again on advice from district nurse. will i get it? watch this space. didnt tell any lies on form, same circumstances. maybe i shouldnt be so honest but thats the kind of person i am.
